*** Look out for my first chess.com video series: coming soon! ***

Hi! I'm James Coleman from England, full-time chess coach, now 44 years old and I have played chess since I was 7.

I haven't played competitively since 2015, although I still enjoy a few online games (ok, more than a few!) My peak ratings were FIDE 2262, ECF 223 but now I'm focussed solely on coaching. I have a limited amount of availability again for new students, who are willing to work hard to improve their game.

As a coach I believe the key to improvement is enjoying the game and setting realistic goals. I'm mostly self-taught in chess so I know what sort of study methods don't work well, and can help you avoid these pitfalls. Over the years, I’ve trained many juniors who have won national championships with their school. So, whether you're simply in a bit of a rut or you want to make serious progress I'm available to guarantee to help you reach your goals.

If getting in touch, let me know some info about yourself, such as how long you've been playing, OTB experience, study routine, what you hope to gain from the sessions etc...then I can start thinking about the best way forward.

I try to respond to messages very quickly, and will usually get back to you within a few hours.

Finally, if you're under 18, instead, please have your parents send me a message/email to arrange it all.
