Welcome to Implodian Chess!

In the 12 years since becoming a professional chess coach, Bryan has privately coached 10 nationally ranked scholastic players in 12 years who have won over 7 individual state titles. Coach Bryan has also led school chess teams to 17 state titles - once coaching three separate schools to win their titles on the same day (2010 The Roeper School K-3, Troy Barnard K-5, Detroit Spain K-6)! Coach Bryan recently helped Detroit Cass Tech to win four straight state titles and one national title (u1600) despite only coaching there for four years.

Coach Bryan coached his son Bryan Wilson Jr to be one of the top 100 players in Michigan of any age and as a result of that training Bryan Wilson Jr defeated the number 2 player in the world Hikaru Nakamura in a chess exhibition.

In 2014 Coach Bryan was named coach of the year by the Detroit Institute of Arts combined with the Detroit City Chess Club

Coach Bryan has recently been featured on NBC News about his efforts to bringing chess to the Flint, Michigan Community

Coach Bryans chess school and its members are called Implodians which is a name based on an acronym ;IMPLODS which represents the uniquely simplified thinking technique developed by Bryan for his son and his students. The Implodians have won 5 state titles awarded to the best club team in Michigan and Canada. Coach Bryan's goal is to increase children's knowledge of the wonderful game of chess throughout Metro Detroit and to show the advantages in the classroom and in life that the game can bring.
