Puzzles XIV
Hi friends! It is time for some puzzles....
Attack on opposite-side castled king
At opposite-sided castling, the kings are on different flanks, and each of the opponents seeks to get ahead of on the offensive. Success will go to the side that first seizes the initiative and creates concrete threats. In this regard, the value of each move increases sharply.
In contrast to a position with one-sided castling You can safely include pawns in the attack. After all, they no longer defend the position of their king. Another feature in such positions is that each of sides will have to combine attack with defense.
Not recommended unless absolutely necessary is to create "window" for the king, since the advanced pawn can become a successful target of attack.
Attacks during castling of all sides are exceptionally sharp, requiring great tactical ingenuity and the ability to find hidden opportunities.
Let`s look at some examples:
1. Alekhine - Tartakower (1927):
2. Negi - Plotkin (2011):
3. Pahman - Pilnjak (1959):
4. Bagirov - Gufeld (1973):
5. Shirov - Tiviakov (2003):
