Saravanan is an International Master from Chennai, India, a top player of the country in the late 90s, and an Olympian representing the national team. He was one of the trainers of world champion Viswanathan Anand since 2007.

A full-time chess professional, he has been a 'mercenary second' and mentor for a few Grandmasters, and a trainer who has produced several GMs and IMs. He is a freelance writer for newspapers, chess magazines, and chess news portals.

Saravanan is also a commentator, public speaker, event manager, and an avid reader of chess books. His videos on chess books and general chess topics - especially on Vishy - have been well received.

He is the father of a teenager, enjoys playing badminton, and loves a good joke, especially over a cup of South Indian filter 'kaapi'.
