Hello! My name is Dalton Perrine and I started playing chess when I was 10 years old. Since then, I have learned and improved a lot, became a FIDE Master and got into coaching professionally when I was 21 years old. My coaching history includes thousands of lessons taught to thousands of students all over the world (no exaggeration) which includes private 1-on-1 coaching, teaching in schools and group coaching online. I have been coaching full-time since 2014 and have been the Director of Instruction for Chess University since 2016. I also create video content for ChessVL.com and my YouTube channel. You can learn more about myself and my own chess training from my interview in the "Master to IM" episode of the Perpetual Chess Podcast.
I have also released a few Chessable courses. My first Chessable course was titled "Survive and Thrive: How to Blunder Less and Defend Better". The course includes 300 exercises that will help you to improve at defensive calculation and preventing blunders in your own games. The course has been officially endorsed by GM Sam Shankland. Click the link above to check out the free video preview that he recorded. My second Chessable course was titled "The Reti: Nimzo-Larsen Attack" which was created with GM Yaroslav Zherebukh. The course is a full White repertoire focusing on the moves 1. Nf3 followed by 2. b3 against the majority of black's first moves. My third Chessable course was titled "The Benko Blueprint: From Theory to Practice" which is all about playing the Benko Gambit in a newer, computer-approved way with 5...e6. I explain how to evaluate positions and play around the theme of compensation too. I was also featured in a Chessable "How to Chess" podcast episode by Ben Johnson that focused on improving at calculation. Click here to give it a listen!

Testimonials:
“Sign Up For Lessons Immediately! I received an excellent breakdown of some of my games. What I really enjoyed was the clear explanations to my questions, the book recommendations, and the clear plan to improve my chess. Just sign up :-)”
—Marc (California, United States)
“Mark Dvoretsky once said that serious work with a chessplayer beings with a diagnosis of the student’s strengths and weaknesses. I have taken lessons from two other coaches in the past and Dalton is the first one to have started off with an interest in learning the style of his students so that he can personalize his lessons to enhance your strengths and eliminate weaknesses. I highly recommend him to anyone who is serious about improving their chess”
—Jefferson (Illinois, United States)
“My first lesson with Dalton was – first and foremost – enjoyable, and I think that’s a key component to any effective chess coach. He broke down my needed areas of improvement and identified some key components in my own play & style, which isn’t easy for any chess player to do for him/herself! I was very surprised at how quickly time flew in our lesson, but we covered great ground, and it was only the first (of hopefully many!). Dalton’s a class-A act who can improve any aspiring tournament player with his game. Highly recommended!”
