About a year ago completely out of the blue, my kids wanted to learn how to play chess. That's how I got involved in chess, and I found chess.com on the internet. I really enjoy this site.
To teach my kids I had to brush up on the very basic rules of chess. Sometimes I feel like a blind man is leading other blinds. :)
Despite their terrible chess teacher, my kids like chess so much they organized their own junior chess club at a local library. By the way, they are by no means chess prodigy. 
Anyway, now I am enjoying chess as much as my kids. There are many excellent players here and it's always fun to watch them playing and I always try to learn from the games. It didn't take me long to find out the addicting nature of the game of chess. Of course my wife isn't really crazy about me being spent too much time here.
