Suited to slower forms of the game. Even 30 minutes over the board is just too fast for the way I play. Online 'correspondence' games allow me time to analyse lines deeply. You see so much more of the wonderful, enormous and hugely complex shadow game that is never actually played out this way. The intricate beauty of chess takes hold when good moves seen down in there are made by both players, each dancing to their strategic music and each taking their own tactical steps. To me good chess is as much an aesthetic thing as it is about winning.
