I learned to play chess when I was about 7 or 8 years old, but I never really got into it until I was a teenager and I got a computer chess game. I mostly played against the computer, because I was too much of a geek to find other geeks to play. When I was in the Army in Germany, I played in a tournament and won the local championship, but when I got to the regional competition, I was quickly humbled. I don't remember what variation he used, but I was forced to resign after only 17 moves (a complete shock to me) so since then I have realized that no matter how good I think I am, there is always someone out there that can put me in my place. I am on this site really just looking for really good players who can beat me every now and then. I believe that the best way to learn the game is to lose and ask the question "how did he beat me" because every time you lose you have discovered a new way to win.

Since I learned mostly playing against the computer, I never developed a good opening or middlegame strategy, for the most part I just survived those parts and played for the endgame wich turned out to be the only part of the game that I could outthink the computer. So, you won't see me playing many gambits or brilliant middlegame attacks, but I will capitalize on your mistakes and attempt to gain positional and material advantages through opening and middlegame, and will most likely beat you in the endgame. That is unless you have left me a clear opportunity to checkmate you in the interim.

I am trying of late to play more gambits and attempting to develop my opening and middlegame strategies, and it is interesting to see what types of attacks others might try.
