I had to take a break from chess.com for a couple of years - it became an addiction.  I'm back... in moderation.

I am a public school teacher and secular humanist.  I move the chess pieces around mostly on blind instinct and consider myself a "scrappy beginner".  (That deaf, dumb, blind kid sure plays a mean pinball!) If you are wondering why in the world I made that particular move, it was because it seemed like damn good idea at the time.  I tend to add more games than I should when I am "in my cups".

Some quotes for you:

"I believe that when I die I shall rot, and nothing of my ego will survive. I am not young, and I love life. But I should scorn to shiver with terror at the thought of annihilation. Happiness is none the less true happiness because it must come to an end, nor do thought and love lose their value because they are not everlasting. Many a man has borne himself proudly on the scaffold: surely the same pride should teach us to think truly about man's place in the world."
- Bertrand Russell

"We all agree that your theory is crazy, but is it crazy enough? "
-Niels Bohr

"One of the great tragedies of mankind is that morality has been hijacked by religion."
-Arthur C. Clarke

"Millions long for immortality but do not know what to do with themselves on a rainy Sunday afternoon."

"Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils."
-Hector Berlioz

"Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity."
- Albert Einstein

"The problem with political jokes is they get elected."
- Henry Cote

"The optimist proclaims we live in the best of all possible worlds; and the pessimist fears this is true."
- James B. Cabell

"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."
- Benjamin Disraeli

"I have taken more good from alcohol than alcohol has taken from me."
- Winston Churchill

"Nemo enim fere saltat sobrius, nisi forte insanit." [None dances sober, unless he is completly insane.]

Most gods throw dice, but Fate plays chess, and you don't find out 'til too late that he's been playing with two queens all along.
