Fremd vs Barrington- FINAL RESULT
17 Days ago, @Reddythechessplayer had a detailed preview of the Fremd vs Barrington Chess match that was happening today. In it, he detailed the keys to success for both teams, Fremd needed to steal a win on one of the top boards and make use of their better bottom board depth, while Barrington needed to take advantage of being heavy favorites on boards 1, 2 and 3. Both teams knew what needed to be done, and now, we will see exactly what happened in the games. It is now time to see whether or not Barrington could live up to their status as a self-proclaimed 68-point favorite.
Before the games were even underway, the intense rivalry between the two teams had already been showcased. From a mess up as to when the meet started to the coaches getting into a heated debate about whether or not a school can boycott a match, this match was already set up to be one for the ages.
Fremd's lower board dominance was showcased early, as wins on boards 7 and 8 within 20 minutes put Fremd up 11-0. Here is the win by the solid veteran, @dontbetaken on board 7.
But things had settled down now. The games went on, and the intensity could be felt all across the room. It went on like this for 90 minutes, until a devastating blow was made. It was on board 2, @Reddythechessplayer, the heavy favorite vs @aggara1 had made a decisive mistake, and was quickly punished for it. Barrington suffered their first loss on one of the top 3 boards this season, and now Fremd was up 22-0.
The momentum was all with Fremd now, and they took full advantage of it. @Iamnotasandbagger on board 1 took down Shreya from Barrington to put the match at a 34-0 score, Fremd was now guaranteed at least a tie.
@koolperry was the match clincher, beating Ethan Gagliano on board 3, to put the match out of reach at 44-0. @koolperry was gracious enough to add his own comments about the game.
Stay tuned for more information on the rematch of these two teams at the MSL Conference Tournament on January 18th, 2020, at Fremd High School.
