Some great chess players have been musicians as well. Here are some examples:

Mark Taimanov was one of the top ten chess players in the 1950's, and at the same time was a concert pianist. Adolf Brodsky, while better known for being a violinist and conductor, was also a world class chess player. Although not a musician, but a composer, François-André Danican Philidor was known for both music and chess, arguably being the best chess player of his time.

Another well known composer, one of my favorites, Sergei Prokofiev, beat Capablanca in a simul. Then there is a Maurice Delgage vs Prokofiev (Prokofiev won), and a Prokofiev-Shostakovich (no record).

Many composers were also chess players, like Chopin, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn. John Cage was already a composer and mushroom expert, but that wasn't enough, because we have a record of his chess games as well.

I hope you enjoyed this article, and if you want to become a professional musician, don't rule out chess too!
