This is an email sent to TRCC:

Nicholas Carlson, Toms River Chess Club member, newest elected board member of the New Jersey State Chess Federation and president of the Osprey Chess Club of Stockton University, has a proposal for the TRCC. Here is a copy of his email:

“This is Nick Carlson! I have a proposal for the Toms River Chess Club,

For the chess club that I administrate at Stockton, the Osprey Chess Club, I administer online Zoom meetings from 5-6 P.M. on Thursdays using Chess.com. Meetings are open to both Stockton students and the general public. Due to challenges being brought on by the pandemic, we are having a hard time achieving any meaningful attendance at our meetings. As a result, I was wondering if members from the TRCC would be interested in participating in the Osprey Chess Club's Thursday meetings.

This would allow for a means of hosting a weekly meeting for the TRCC during the COVID-19 era. If enough TRCC members are interested, I would even be willing to increase meeting times from 5 - 8 P.M. The Osprey Chess Club has a Zoom license that allows for us to host nearly 100 people at a time and also allows for us to create breakout rooms for players to play chess together in a peaceful online environment. It may even be possible for us to have practical online tournaments using the break out rooms in Zoom.

If you think any TRCC members would be interested, please let me know as I believe having a closer partnership between the TRCC and the Osprey Chess Club is a great way to solve the poor attendance and slow meetings being experienced by the Osprey Chess Club. For the TRCC and its members, this partnership can be used as a stepping stone to get chess meetings back up and running for one of the oldest chess clubs in New Jersey.

Let me know what you think,

Nick Carlson
Osprey Chess Club President and proud TRCC Member”
