Second NLL Seasons Questions and Cap'ns

Hey all,

Second season of the NLL league is due to start on the 22nd June (details below).

I am going to step down from my sort of captain and organisational duties not only because it was a role I somehow acquired but never wanted, but because I am stopping playing 2d chess and any chess sub 30mins as well as it being a bit more organised this time around so would benefit form someone who takes things more seriously.

So if discussions here need to be about who and how many need to step up to the role I will vacate as well as folks deciding if we want to enter one team or two etc.

Cheers

Harry

Norfolk Live League Season 2

I am hoping to start season 2 on the week beginning 22nd June.

Most of the rules will be kept the same as season 1 as I think it is fair to say it has all worked well.

Time Control still 15+10

4 Players minimum, no maximum.

Teams to play on the home team‘s choice of evening at 8pm unless agreed differently by the team captains.  Tuesdays are best avoided due to the Norfolk Classic Tournament.  (Broadland are involved in several national and international online competitions please can every match against Broadland in the open section be played on either a Wednesday or Thursday evening.  I will do my best to organise the fixtures so most of Broadland’s away matches are against teams who request to play to play on Wednesdays or Thursdays. )

Players can only play for one Norfolk club.  Players should be members or past members dating back 10 years of that club, or live within 10 miles of the club.    I may need to ask for clarification of some of your members identities if it’s not clear.

Changes

There will be two sections to the league for season 2; an Open section and an Under 120* section.

The Open section is open to teams made up of players any ability with no grade/ratings restrictions.

The Under 120* section is restricted to players with an ECF rapid play grade of 120 or below. But one player on each team is allowed to have a grade of up to 140.  In the absence of a rapid play grade then the standard play grade will used.  If a player has no grade then they are welcome to play in this section unless it is obvious their playing ability is too good for this section.

Clubs can select which section they wish to enter teams into.  They may enter more than one team, in each section.  In this case it will be advisable to create a new club on Chess.com for each team.  All members will remain in the main group and then join the sub groups.  This way teams from the same club can play each other.

Guesting is allowed for teams of the same club. But they must fit the grading restrictions for the Under 120* section to play in this section.   If a club enters two teams in the same section then guesting should be kept at a minimum and only done so if a team of 4 players can’t be found and agreed with the opposing team captain.

If more than 10 teams choose to enter a section then there will be divisions of that section, but that seems unlikely at present.

So first of all please can each club confirm how many teams they wish to enter, which section they wish to enter and their choice of evenings for their home matches.   The deadline for entries will be June 10th, so I can compile the fixtures and tables etc.  New teams, B, C and D teams and junior teams (all juniors should be of high school age to use Chess.com) are more than welcome.

Thank you,

Matt
