Untitled Tuesday and Saturday Recap - May
Apologies for the delay in posting this. @Everyfishknows, who won the May Tuesday event, has now earned his NM title, and therefore is no longer eligible to play in Untitled Tuesday events.
Also, I have been unable to find a writer for the June events, but I should mention that this game from the Saturday event is interesting - @Lord_Axe missed a mate in four against @MikeChesser, who eventually went on to win with a perfect 10/10 score. The extremely-competitive June Tuesday event was won by @Mazetix, after @Ast_F9 was disqualified
The May recap was written by @msd238.
Untitled Tuesday: May 07 2019
Everyfishknows won the May edition of the Untitled Tuesday. He is in an event winning streak. He has won many of the Untitled Tuesday events before, but this is the first time for him and in the history of Untitled Tuesday for the same person to win the event for three consecutive months. That's right! He's the winner of the March, April and May editions of the Untitled Tuesday. Can he do it again? Let's find out in the June edition of the Untitled Tuesday.
Everyfishknows won the event securing clear first with 8.5/10, a point ahead of the other leaders' patzers and Flaccidmoves, who ended 7.5/10. Flaccidmoves was the highest rated player in the tournament, started as the top seed but couldn't get what he seeks.
Many Upsets Caused Disaster For The Top Rateds Early On
There are surprisingly many incredible upsets throughout the whole event. The top seed, Flaccidmoves, was utterly lost in the first round against luisen_17 but was lucky that luisen_17 miscalculated and agreed on a draw. Can you spot the straightforward win for luisen_17?
Untitled Saturday: May 11, 2019
Tudorache_M won the May edition of Untitled Saturday. As Everyfishknows is having a wonderful time adding in the titles of Untitled Tuesday events, Tudorache_M decided to follow him by winning the Untitled Saturday events. He won it once again and also is the winner of the April edition of the Untitled Saturday. Can he win the Untitled Saturday in the June edition? If he does then, he would be the first person to win the Untitled Saturday event for three consecutive months and will also make him the second in the Untitled history to do that.
Okay coming back, CP6033 played a remarkable event tieing in first with Tudorache_M scoring 8.5/10, but wasn't enough as his tiebreaks weren't good and granted him second.
Early Loses Blown Chances Away For The Top Seed
The tournament didn't go the way that the top seed, cjxchess17 has expected. cjxchess17 struggled the first half of the event as he only scored 2/5 losing three games horribly due to being in time scrambles. He suffered a game to Midhav_Veahkar in a way better position in the starting round.
He scored 4.5/5 in the remaining half, but that wasn't enough for him to secure a place in top 3.
Tudorache_M's Long Fire Streak
Tudorache_M performed brilliantly throughout the whole tournament. He was on fire in the starting rounds, scored 7/7 with three rounds remaining. That made it much easier for him as he was ahead of the second stander, CP6033 by a point and a half before entering the final three rounds.
CP6033 got paired with Tudorache_M in the 5th round, where he tried the aggressive, Smith-Morra Gambit against him but didn't excecute the right plan and ended his opponent a win.
Leader Escapes The Final Three Rounds
Tudorache_M had a brilliant streak, but it could have ended earlier. He didn't do that well in the final three rounds as he could have lost two games but was very lucky to escape them with a draw. His match with cjxchess17 was quite an interesting one to review. cjxchess17 could have been a whole rook up, but missed it and played for a draw being in a time scramble. Can you find the win for him?
After Tudorache_M's game with cjxchess17, he was paired with shortcastle in the next round. His play in the opening wasn't great which gave his opponent an enormous space advantage. In the end, shortcaste had a winning knight vs bishop endgame but didn't find the right technique to win and agreed to a draw.
After having two bad games, Tudorache_M didn't risk the last round with Midav_Veahkar and agreed to an early draw. After the completion of the event, he ended 8.5/10 with a better tiebreak and stood first.
