Welcome to Concho Chess Academy!

Chess People,

It's my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the online portion of the Concho Chess Academy. I run OTB chess programs in San Angelo, Texas and other areas in West Texas, but this online avenue allows me to reach players from all over. This group started from a small 30 person class I taught last year at a local school and has grown to something that includes people from many countries, a wide player age range, and multiple skills levels. We have signed up over 200 people to play rated chess in the US. I keep my personalized lessons very affordable to reach as many people as possible. If you are interested in these lessons please reach out to me, otherwise, there's no obligation. You and your friends are always welcome to play chess events here!

If you know me in person then you may be aware of all the chess programs I am trying to run in San Angelo. These include multiple pop-up chess events, fundraiser tournaments, and chess scholarship opportunities for local students. Here's what I want to do with this online group:

Weekly Swiss events Tuesdays at 7pm CT

A monthly classical tournament.

Unique style competitions, such as the Mesquite League, with up to 64 players with real prizes.

I want to utilize these formats to turn our chess games into entertaining and educational Youtube Videos where YOU are allowed to be the star of the show. There are already many videos showcasing Grandmasters when the vast majority of chess players (99%) are not recognized for their excellent games or wins. If you continue winning weekly tournaments I will continue to make videos about you. It's that simple. Your chess accomplishments and excellent games should be highlighted. We can also use these games to grow together and improve in the long run.
