Ruy López Opening: Jaenisch Gambit
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 f5
A gambit answer to the Ruy Lopez - Black's move 3...f5 strikes the white center from the side, leading to great complications in many cases.
Pros:
- Black tries to grab the initiative
- Black can often gain a strong pawn center
- The f-file can be used by a black rook.
Cons:
- Black can end up down one or two pawns
- The black king is exposed
- There are many forcing variations
