What about "Dangerous Moves"? Great ending sequence!
hey Max, thank you for finding this.... it's one of my favorites!! and the film made by the grand daughter of GM. Max Euwe ...
This is my favourite movie, now I found a link with subs! (there isn't any official with english subs). Hope you will enjoy!
Looks like a movie I would watch -- took a glimpse of it on YouTube. But, as you said "no subtitles".
hello Max Wagenaar... did you know that the film-maker is the grand daughter of WC. Max Eeuwe.... and the story about "the game" is based on "ome jan leer zijn neefje schaken" my first chess book (for kids) by Max Eeuwe.
and i realy liked this movie.... it won an international price so it must be available with subtitles !?
Lang leve de koningin (Long live the queen) is my favourite. It's an older movie, from 1995, and deals with a little girl who is bad at school, but has one talent, playing chess. Later in the film she begins to know that her father is a famous chessplayer. It's a beautiful film. Even my aunt got tears in her eyes. It's a pity that there aren't subtitles in another language.
I recommend watching "Fresh" and "Revolver" with Jason Stathom
Searching for Bobby Fischer and Kasparov vs. the machine are the only two I've seen.
i found it .. my favorite is JOUEUSE... unbelievable is has only 2% in the poll.
i saw a great movie.. about a beautifull lady.. she was a cleaner and had a boring life... then she found chess.... can someone tell me name of this movie ?? i like so see it again :)
Fresh! Thank you. This is simply an incredible film. Not only does "Fresh" keep us off guard on a psychological level, but on an emotional one as well, something few films ever think of doing.
Samuel L. Jackson costars as Fresh's estranged father, a speed chess hustler in the city park whose dispassionate philosophy--the chess board as life--becomes the film's central metaphor.
We just watched Searching for Bobby Fischer the other night. It was good! :)
Anybody ever see "The Mighty Pawns"...?
A pretty good low budget film about inner city kids and their disciplinarian teacher/coach ....
I may have already written this (I'm returning to this topic after some time away), but my favorite chess film is the documentary "Chess Kids" which follows the participants of the 1990 World Youth Chess Championships held in Fond Du Lac, WI in the United States.
Two of the more well known figures that were observed were Josh Waitzkin and Judit Polgar (who took 1st place in the "Under 14 Boys" section.
Yes! That is why I eventually wrote "you could say that it was about chess but at a deeper level" You could also say that Fresh shows how chess is a lot like life. At any rate, I whole heartedly agree with you BigMike; you hit the nail on the head. "Put the time on 'em and I'll chew 'em up!"
Fresh was certainly about chess. The boy was playin chess with the people. He learned on the board and then played chess with humans: making sacrifices and evaluating positions and ultimately he won.
The movie "Fresh" is not really ABOUT chess so that is why it probably did not make the list. (Knights of the South Bronx and Searching for Bobby has chess as the main plot for example) However, it was a very good movie and its theme was definitely chess in nature; which is why they portrayed some chess playing nonchalantly. I watched it recently and I would surly watch it again. You could say that this movie was about chess but at a deeper level.
Another's films with Christophe Lambert, face to face, I believe, a game with a criminal, but in generally lot of film on this subject Chess, never been a consecrated really with this style....
A film with Christopher Lambert, the title exactly I think, its " Knights move"..... , affaire Thomas Crown, and some films or series....
