I started playing chess at school when I received a pocket chess set on my 12th birthday and two of us later started a chess club at the school. I began to subscribe to CHESS  magazine and became a member of Manchester Chess Club (Blackburne and Fairhurst were past members )  However I prefer reading about the game than playing it. I prefer open positions and enjoy playing the Scotch Opening . I love playing over the games of the old masters like Reti and Tartakower and have a wellthumbed Reinfeld collection: British Chess Masters-Past and Present printed in 1947-- the year I was born. So I have enjoyed chess for most of my life and wish I was a better player!
