(I have made some adjustments to this post so it becomes easier to read and also changed a sentence in question nr 7. It is time for our yearly Summer Quiz and this year I have 10 questions for you. The deadline is set on August 14 23.59 CET. The winner will be the one who has most correct answers but if two or more have the same number of correct answers, the winner will be the one among them who first sent in the answers. Some questions are really difficult but that is because you are allowed to use google, documentaries, books and other aids just as long as you do not ask someone else.

This person was born in the late 19th Century and became a pilot in the 1920's. During that decade the pilot set a record for flying over the Atlantic Sea and became very famous. During the late 1930's this person disappeared during a flight around the world. Who is the person?

Here we seek the name for an ancient king. If one of them has really existed, there might actually have been two kings with that name, he might be the first historical person we know the name for, if we do not count persons mentioned in old religious and mythological texts. He was supposed to have lived in one of the great river valley civilizations, probably around 3200-3050 BC, before or during the time his kingdom became a part of a larger kingdom. When Universal Pictures made a movie in the early 2000's they borrowed this name for the main character. What name for a king do we seek?

This person that we seek was born in the late 1870's. He was a farmer but became a leader for a peasant army and a revolutionary leader who especially stood on the poor native farmers side. He was finally killed in the late 1910's and one of Hollywood's greatest actors once won the prize for best actor at a famous film festival for playing him in a movie. He has given his name to a movement. Who do we seek?

Here we seek a city that arranged one Summer Olympic Games during the 20th Century. The area for the city was populated by indigenous groups but was later used by Europeans who founded settlement there in the early 19th Century. The native population were then largely forced away by the Europeans and during the mid 19th century the population in the area increased because of a gold rush. In the 1860's the city was its county's largest and it became the capital City during the early part of the 20th Century but lost that to a much smaller city. Today it is its Country's second largest City and a kind of Culture capital City. What City do we seek?

Here we seek an old City with its roots in the ancient era. It was first a Celtic settlement, but the Romans later took over the area. After the Romans the City was controlled by several different groups before it became integrated in the Country it still belongs too. This was during the Medieval Era. During the late Medieval Era this City became very important and was the center for its country's maritime activities. It became an important place for trade too, especially slaves, but from the 16th Century its importance started to decline in favour of the Country's Capital City a little bit more to the West. Today it is a small City with a population less than 50 000. Still many tourists visit this area each year.

This Catholic "settlement" that we seek was founded during the first half of the 18th Century. It was situated close to a City and was populated by Northern refugees who were either Christians or became baptized. The settlement was destroyed by the British some years after but rebuilt and used by the refugees until the area was ceded to the British in the peace treaty in Paris in 1763. Most of the population than fled/moved to an island in the South. It was finally destroyed in the 1810's. During the late 1900's the site was excavated and is now a National Park. Here we seek a phenomenon that has not been proven by Historians but is seen as a myth about the "dark" Medieval Era. We can find stories about it in a drama made by Voltare and a comedy made by a French dramatist. The comedy was later used for a famous opera in which this phenomenon is a part of the plot. In modern times it has been showed on film on several occasions, one of them in a movie from the mid 90's, infamous for having so many wrong Historical details. Even Herodotos believed that this was real in distant parts of Africa. There is no evidence for it and it seems like this myth became more accepted during the Age of Enlightenment, perhaps they wanted to show how barbaric people were in the past? What phenomenon do we seek?

Here we seek a famous Historical object manufactured in Italy during the first half of the 6th Century. It was discovered in a Monastery during the mid 16th Century and later taken to Emperor Rudolf II. During the 30 Years' War it was brought north as a war booty but was later given to a Dutchman who had worked for the Queen who had been given this object. The Dutchman sold it during the 1660's, and later it ended up in a University in Northern Europe. The people behind this object has often been connected to the Country that now possess the object but modern scholars are not that sure about the connection though some have seen a close similarity between the languages this people used and the old language in the Country that is now in possession of this object. What object is it?
