When you have King rook pawn.When the opposing king is on the 6th rank. observe what color the king is on. This will determine wether to use 1 or 2 squares if the oppposing king is on the 6th or 7th rank. If he's on a white square you move the king rook pawn 1 square. If the opposing is on a dark square you move the pawn (KRP) 2squares  If it's KNP you do the opposite. I learned this from Bruce Pandolfifi's endgame course. #118  John Moyer; tinman5150 This will determine if the game becomes a draw or a win.
