Best Chessmen Ever ABS Plastic

Sort:

I seen these on Youtube. Anyone have these pieces yet? They seem to play just as well as the wooden version. I only hope the price is right as the wooden version was very expensive.

I don't think Jonas is selling a plastic set - I think it's just a custom job he 3D-printed for himself...

Thanks for the info Frank..! Maybe they will come out in the near future?

They do sell a cheaper wooden version that is made in India. Much nicer than plastic.

I suppose this is as good a place as any to say that I would like to see a bigger set of BCE chessmen.  4.5" or so.

Another thing would be a best FOLDING chess board ever, with slots for the BCE pieces inside.

Ask Jonas a.k.a. "ifekali" here on chess.com. He's a nice guy! I'm gonna meet/see him at summer when he comes to Idrija to perform some Stand-Up.  Smile

Jack_Burton, this is the chess set we have at school.
[Proof] that I'm not lying. Wink If it is hard to see, then try [this].

It looks like a decent set, but maybe a little bit thin wood in the construction.  I've come close to buying it myself many times.

Thanks Andy for the link.

I didn't knew about this affordable version of the BCE.

I couldn't resist and have just bought one.

I like them even more than the Dubrovnik, because I don't like the knights of the Dub. I think it is the only set with a modern design that captivates me. Near perfect [To be perfect for me It should have the marcel duchamp knights ;) ]

You're welcome. Hope you enjoy the set.

@9kick9

Our BCE ABS chessmen were never intended for sale as the printing of 32 pieces takes a week or so, it's a slow process. On top of that, the pieces are a bit rough at the edges, not as beautiful as their wooden counterparts and have a rough textured feel to them. However, when weighted they feel surprisingly solid and super stable and are a joy to play with, especially in turbo speed games. It's difficult to explain ... there's a certain heft to ABS plastic, ... indestructible and solid. (Have you ever seen a broken lego brick?)

To my astonishment, I have had a couple of custom print orders from friends despite of somewhat high price. On both accounts I was more or less simply told "I want them" after the game.

Hey everybody!

I cant stand chess sets like this where all the pieces are all different and crazy.

Once you get to the midgame and youve been drinking I just want to throw the damn board across the room!

That is why there are different designs on chess pieces, and we all do not play with the same chess set

That is a display set.  Nobody with an ounce common sense would play a game with a set like that!
