Now when Chessbase 13 has arrived, I have looked for discount prices for Chessbase 12.

After a quick search, I found the Chessbase shop sells it for 99 Euros. But I think still it's to much for an old version. Any cheaper avaliable in Europe?

I have found that the free online version of the Chessbase database is more than adequate for my needs.

Still, I have occasionally wondered what  new worlds would open up to me if I had the full version at my fingertips.  At first, 99 Euros for Chessbase 12 plus online access versus 370 Euros for the full version of Chessbase 13 seemed like a hell of a discount to me.

However, I noticed that the 99 Euro download version of Chessbase 12 only gives you access to online updates until December 31, 2015 and it doesn't include the historic Mega Database 2014 of 5.7 million games.

I wonder what you really will have after the service subscription expires other than a tool for creating a database of your own games?  I doubt that is what you really want but I think that is what you will be left with with an expired version of Chessbase.

The reason people pay a lot of money to Chessbase is for the rapid updates of newly played top grandmaster games.  I think that Chessbase has to charge a high price for that service because there is probably a very limited market of less than a thousand people in the world willing to pay for it.

If you are even considering that, the download version of Chessbase13 is the same price and the subsciption runs through the end of 2016.
