Actually, back on topic, the dude said he would post pictures when he received his prototype set.  He never returned with any pictures or even any sort of update.  I hope he is okay.

It's my guess he was soured on the forum following the comments.

It's my goal to some day make my own chess set.  Perhaps I'll look into something like LoveMagnet has done, but I'll guarantee right now it would be a much more serviceable and complete set (weighted) akin to something like the Best Chessmen Ever.

I sympathize with him becoming more interested in chess following illness.  I would say many of us here have been down that path.

Well, actually the dude went off on a few people on his first thread "Should I put my chess set into production?"

His behavior here was more of the same.  The first design was much better in my opinion.

I would think the real problem was when he got his set out of the printer. As usual things don't look in real world as they look on the computer. So I guess when he opened that box he found something that was not up to the quality he wanted so he didn't toke those pictures.

It says he was last on here 9 hours ago.

I "went off" on a troll who had no helpful input to the conversation, and I blocked him when I learned how to do that.

I've had the set lying in a couple of plastic bags for a long while now, and I've been telling myself to figure out how to rig some light and stuff to take some good pictures, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Meanwhile I haven't sold one single set from my Shapeways shop, and I don't blame anyone for giving it a miss, because the prices are insane, even after Shapeways lowered them a bit. I guess that is a demotivating factor to get those pictures done too.

I have to agree that the pieces looked more interesting in the earlier versions. The more I have worked on them, the more they have morphed into something much more ordinary looking. Finally I dropped the arms and heads because I couldn't vision a sensible way to merge them with the bodies, and after that it is pretty much just a Staunton set with a slightly unusual bishop.

If I had the time I would take another crack at giving the set a unique look, but as long as I have no way of monetizing the work, I can't afford to sink more hours into this project. Sad but that's the way it is.

Make the rook larger than the knight.

I think you have get enougth interest from people here, many would like to see the pictures,  you don't really need to have a profecional studio for this, just some take of the set on the board, and then maybe some detailed close ups.

I was wondering why the arms gone, I was suspecting if it had something to do with the way printers work and they where not practical or something, so i appreciate you explain this mod decision.

Love Magnet:

Hey, glad you are back, brah.  I like your style.  You should hang out here more often, brah.  Welcome back, brah.  Cheers.

This is a pretty cool idea, brah.

I like the idea of designing and printing your own set and if you did this for your own use so that you can own a distinctive set then I say, "good for you." I, myself, would not buy this set because I prefer the regular Staunton design and for the price you are charging one can get a good Staunton set. I do look forward to the day when 3D printers become inexpensively available so that I, too, can design my own personal set and make a statement while playing chess.

Love Magnet is awesome, brah.
