Clemenz Antimodern Attack

Sort:
Yigor

This awesome opening is characterized by h3, e3, b3 and Bb2 vs anything!Cool In particular, it can appear starting from Clemenz opening 1.h3Wink or as a variation of Nimzo-Larsen attack 1.b3.

thaskaiser

can you share the ideas of this opening Yigor?or some games?

Hey TonyWink, sure, I play this regularly. But please give me rather 4 moves for black. How would U play vs this opening? Then we can discuss the sequel.

Yigor

For example, Clemenz antimodern attack vs 2 central pawns + 2 knights:

Here 5.Bb5 is quite good.Cool

e5 , d5 , Nc6 and Bd6

tnx for your time YigorCool

Nice choice: 2 central pawns + knight + dsB

Well, it looks like 5.Nf3 is the strongest continuation for white cuz on 5.Bb5 there is a nice counter-attack 5...Qg5!

I'm confused. Please review, Yigor.

Just what i thought. thanks Pretz. I think the line you gave is a bit risky but active. I like the idea though, but i'm not too sure. that still would depend on whom im facing with.

Yigor

AmateurPretzel and Stinger, thanx for correcting me, mates!Smile

I understand the moves b3, Bb2 and e3 - they could fit into a number of opening setups. But I don't understand what h3 is for. To me it looks like it just wastes a move and weakens white's kingside. Please could you explain?

Beautiful pawn structureSmile and the conrol of g4 square. But U are right, at master level, h3 would be a waist of tempo in many variations.

Sorry, I'm not convinced. Weakening g3 doesn't look like a great pawn structure to me, especially as white's natural plan of playing for the f4 break becomes much more difficult due to the threat of Qh4 and/or a knight getting into g3. And why do you want to control g4? What is going to go there which is going to cause so much harm?

Well, I just like to start sometimes with h3, that's all.Cool

Yigor

I know that h3 is not the best move in many of these variations but it's not a mistake and gives a pawn structure that I like.Cool
