What if White plays Nxe5? This gambit cannot be really that good at all. To me, it looks like an attempt at a Caro-Kann that was botched enormously
Gunderam Gambit
After Nxe5 black will win the pawn back, but white will have some development advantage. For an example: 3.Nxe5 Qe7 4.d4 d6 5.Nf3 Qxe4+ 6.Be7.
Just came across this opening in a blitz game earlier today. I also played Nc3, though the main line seems to be c4. But honestly it looks to me like white should just take the pawn on e5. When black regains the pawn with the eventual Qxe4 white plays Be2, and later gains time on the queen with Nc3. Looks to me like white obtains a stable advantage due to his lead in development.
3.Nxe5 Qe7 4.d4 d6 5.Nf3 Qxe4+ 6.Be2 d5 7.Nc3 and well...white has a much improved version of the french exchange variation in which he/she is up countless amounts of tempi.
What a coincidence. Yesterday I played a friendly match (in the time between two lessons at college) and he played that gambit (1.e4e5 2.Nf3c6). We only had 15 minutes, so didn't have time to analyze much. I played 3.Bd4. I made many mistakes in the first moves, but still won the match.
Just had the Halloween bot (Zomianchtchi - 1400) try this on me. I played 3. Nxe5 and the bot never recovered. The first time I was able to beat it
Decided yesterday to try another opening (either that or I was too sleepy to see what I was doing), anyway the game ended up like this:
Has anyone any idea on the theory behind this opening or played it before?
