I need a new opening!

Sort:

For black openings I have been using French Defence e4 e6. And I am fine with that opening. On the other hand I also play white which I dont have a good opening e4 c5. And I think it is time to get a new one, dont you guys think too, yes so I am wondering if you guys have any white openings for me and i am fine with the French Defence and I dont have a problem with that I usually works for me every time so if you have a white opening for me just tell me in the comments and I am in need for a new one thanks. :)

Try 1. b3

Your English is very bad. I think you are asking for a line against the Sicilian, but maybe you meant White in general. Either way my advice is the same: you need to imrpove a lot before studying openings. Just follow opening principles. If you chose to ignore this advice, which I know you will, then play either the Smith-Morra Gambit or Alapin Sicilian when faced with 1...c5.

You can try to alapin vs. c5. Or you could try the English (1.c4)

Being English doesn't necessarily mean that you can speak the language well. As to your actual question- learning specific openings aren't going to benefit you as much as doing tactical training, but if you absolutely need a response to sicilian, the opening suggested by other players in this thread, Alapin (1. e4 c5 2. c3...)seems as good a choice as any.

Why not A00 - Fool's mate?

Do not ever every correct someone on ANYTHING when your name is Miley Cyrus Fan for short.

There is no other viable opening for White other than 1.e4 - everything else loses by force.  Sorry, but you're just going to have to learn to play against the Sicilian ...  Smile

Play 1.e3... 2.d3... 3.d4 and voilà, you have your French but with changed colors.

1.d4 d5 2. Bf4 ( London...se GM Henrik Danielsens chessbase DVD)

1. d4 Nf6 3. Bg5 (The Trompowsky,Starting out the Trompowsky and Peter Wells repertoire. For inspiration see Julian Hodgsons all games and his videso on the Trompowsky.)

vs :

Slav setups : Play London system

1.d4 d6 2.e4  150 Attack

1.d4 g6 2. e4  Pirc  150 Attack (books : ' Killer chess opening repertoire' by Summerscale,John Emms Meeting 1.e4

1.d4 c5 2.c3 (go for London)

1.d4 f5 2. Nf3 followed by Bg5 (Roman Dzindzichasvilli has a video on this practical opening here on chess.com).

This repertoire is simple to learn and play. Very practical. Not the most ambitious one but you will play on your backyard almost everytime you play chess and your oponents will find it rather boring to play chess with you.

Good luck!

First of all you should avoid to lose all of your pieces within the first 20 moves, when youve managed that, you can think about lines against the Sicilian...

The_Chess_Coach

i would recomend 1. d4

Mallet

Why not 1. a3...Anderssens opening? You don´t have to worry about bishops pin, then...

As for the English language: Prince Charles , heir to the English Crown, has frequently complained about poor English among his subjects. He should know.

Mallet

Sorry, very sorry!

Typewriting is not easy, when you use both your hands...

Moby1199, don't worry about it. I guess my English must be pretty bad, too, because before I post, the window displays this caption: 'Please be relevant, helpful and nice'.  From many of the posts here, clearly it must mean the opposite of what I thought it meant.

How would you know? 1300 std vs 2000 correspondence rating says you can't play without an open book to guide you.

FYI I get much better results as white using d4, but I play e4 most of the time to make the game harder for me.

Sicilian is a crap defence in my hands, as is French. Scandinavian works better and so does C-K
