Please recommend me a system

I'm looking for a system as black against 1.e4 e5 2.Nf6.

I play 1....e5 mainly because I simply love playing against the King's Gambit. I don't play the Sicilian, because I don't really understand Sicilian openings. Basically, I love imbalances, and hate the deep theoretical exploration of the Spanish and Italian openings, it is rare for me to get an advantage in those openings.

So please suggest me a system against 2.Nf3 which offers good chances of interesting imbalances in the short term. Thank you.

Nf6 is a good suggestion. Petroff.

I suggest just taking the dive into the Sicilian labyrinth.  If you want imbalances, there is no better first move than 1...c5!!

Pythonas

2...Nf6 the petroff

or

2...d6 the philidor

Fixing. He plays e5. Not c5.

There is not much choice after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 other than the already mentioned defenses : the Petroff and the Philidor. In the Petroff the positions are fairly balanced and the Philidor is somewhat passive for Black and it's hard to get any advantage.

The only thing left is to play another first move than e5.

Like you , I find the Sicilian too difficult to play and there is so much theory that it dazzles me. It is of course a matter of taste , but I can suggest the Pirc defense as an alternative.

2...Nc6 is pretty solid.

Most likely will face the "Scotch" game from white or "Italian" where black does have good lines and chances.

Yeah I know, but he said he loves imbalances and therefore 1...c5 is the natural choice for defense.  Seems odd to me to prefer 1...e5 only to play against a rare opening like King's Gambit.

I use g6 setups sometimes. I think White will always have an advantage in such positions but there's still room to play. g6 systems tend to start off solid but active play can be found in the middlegame rather than the opening. I think this is the best way to play chess.

2...Nxf6 seems stronger than calling your opponent for an illegal move
