i assume you mean 3 e3 heh. qd5 looks terrible. theres actually lots of ways black might try to hold the pawn but many of them are positional suicide.
Apologies I should have said e3.

you just have to get used to the fact that material is not all that matters
Playing against the computer which frequently plays 3........Qd5
I should be able to gain a quick tactical advantage yet I just can't seem to find a counter stategy to win back the pawn or to gain a tactical advantage.
I agree 3........Qd5 looks bad but I can't find anything.
5 b3 seems to be the answer!
Thanks for the response. Is there any way to correct the title of the OP?
anyway those are lines that jsut get the pawn back. I tihnk its better to jsut play nc3 then nf3 and not worry about it. you dont need to force anything.
Totally agree. When your opponent makes weak moves that violate opening principles, just stick to them yourself with moves like Nf3 and do not violate them yourself by trying to get back material equality. After Nf3, white has both Ne5 and d5 as nice follow on moves, depending upon what black does.
Hello all
The essence of this opening according to the theory says that black should not try and hold on to the stray pawn after accepting the gambit. Yet after Qd5 black seems to be able to do just that.
The obvious next move for white is 4. Nc3 attacking the queen, but the queen always seems to have options all of which defend the pawn nicely.
Any thoughts please?
