What are your favorite and most used openings atyour repertoire and do you have any surprise weapons...me for example,i adore french defence

ThrillerFan

White: 1.d4

Black: The Universal System (1...d6 in essence against anything, but NOT the Pirc, I play the Pribyl/Czech System)

I guess the biggest surprise weapon is the Dangerfield Attack (1.d4 f5 2.Bf4), not to be confused with the London System.  There are differences.

GreenLeaf14

haven't heard of the Dangerfield attack before....i'll give that a look:)

My surprise weapon is my nuclear arsenal against the Sicilian that contributes to my 90+% score against it in USCF-rated play.

After a bunch of jumping around I'm seriously thinking about 1 b3 and 1...d6 (Modern Philidor against 1 e4 2 d4, No Name defense against 1 d4 2 c4, and Wade defense against 1 d4 2 Nf3). The No Name defense is sort of like an Old Indian, it just doesn't have a name.

Noreaster

French vs e4

Leningrad Dutch vs d4, c4, Nf3

Colle as white

GreenLeaf14

nimzovitch2013...what are the moves of The No Name Defence?

Likhit1

French against e4,Benko Gambit against d4,e4 as white.Ruy lopez against e5,exchange caro-kan,Tarrasch French,Closed or grand prix attack against the sicillian, classical against pirc.

Has anyone else heard about the no name defence before?

It's 1 d4 d6 2 c4 e5. In the book A Universal Weapon 1 d4 d6 written by Vladimir Barsky, he says "...strangely enough 1 d4 d6 2 c4 e5 does not have an established name." Also, I've read somewhere else before that this doesn't have a name but I don't recall where.

Strangely enough,Black has better results than white in  all the lines except Nc3in the Chess.com database. But Chess.com database is not that great. You'll have to look it up in the Megabase.

@Greenleaf14

In my Hiracs 14 database of players rated 2400+ 1 d4 d6 2 c4 e5 scores 51% for black. At 365 Chess website in the big database of all ratings black scores 55%. Black scores well because white can't play an early Bc4 (there's a white pawn on c4), a bit of a pain for black in the Modern Philidor where white can play Bc4 and usually does.

i usually will do the sicilian but on some opponents you have to be a little careful. If you do a little mistake it can be danger for you and there might be no exit or recovery from it.

Against 3 Nc3 in Hiarcs 14 database of players rated 2400+ black scores 48%, and in the big database at 365Chess black scores 49.5%.

rlass

Spanish as white (with the occasional English), caro-kann or (mostly) Sicilian vs.e4, Dutch vs anything other than e4

GreenLeaf14

according to chessgames.com after 3.Nf3 0r 3.g3 among GMs black wins just 25% of the time for each move while draws 43% , 25 % respectively

nimzovitch2013

At Chessgames after 3 Nf3 black wins 33% and draws 37%, outscoring white who wins 30%. 3 g3 has few games to go by. At 365chess and in Hiarcs 14 database black outscores white after 3 g3 but it's still not enough games. The book I have says to play ...exd4 against 3 g3, getting a good game. 3 Nc3 appears to be white's best move but 3 Nf3 is chosen more often. Against 3 Nc3 at Chessgames black still scores 47%, and if black responds to 3 Nc3 with black's best move black scores 49%. What more can someone ask from a defense.

GreenLeaf14

if it was that good i think it would have been chosen more often from GMs and they wouldnt choose openings like nimzo or KID etc...so there must be sth wrong about it or the games are before this line was analysed in depth and they found some move that destroys blacks plan...
