Play all of them, study all of them until you find one that you are comfortable playing with. Openings and variations are subjective to the player's playing style and piece/pawn positional preference.

Exchange variation is annoying for those who wanted a proper Ruy game, 5.Qe2/5.d3 is annoying for those who like theory, or you can try outsmart your opponents in theory by playing the main variation.

With Black you can hope to go for Marshall Gambit which sacs a pawn but you get an attack for it

Do you mean the Marshall counter attack in the Ruy ?  The Marshall gambit is a line of the semi-slav ...

Every ruy lopez variation is good, it just depends what you like, anyways Exchange seems the best to me.

The  C.A.R.L.  has served me very well for years .  ( Center Attack Ruy Lopez )   It involves 5 d4  or  6 d4  and is only equal if black knows the theory but in my experience few of my opponents knew the theory .

The Berlin Wall equalizes fastest but queenless openings to say nothing of middlegames aren't to everyone's taste.

Plenty of lines there, closed ruy lopez offers you deep positional struggle, marshall and open offers more tactical variations, which are also more critical regarding ammount of theory you need to know. Then there are plenty of other minor tries - Bird, schliemann, steinitz... and of course Berlin - unbalanced endgame, where plans are more important than single lines. Anyway I think you dont need to bother, on your level you will see more often stuff like exchange or early d3.

This is why I like playing The Berlin Wall as black. It pretty much simplifies everything in terms of studying.

Then there is of course 4. d3 or even 4.Qe2(not really dangerous, but still I like it) against berlin. And you will most likely meet these two much more often than berlin endgame.

Those are the first lines that are covered in the Berlin Wall Chess Stars book so you aren't exactly out of the theoretical woods with those.

Are you assuming he is asking which is better for White?

What if the question is which is better for Black? What would you answer?

(Oh, and chickens have beaks not lips.)

I play 9 Rxe5 and agree its better but after 9... d6  I have won a lot of games with  10 Rg5 !?   This line is supposed to be better for black but OTB it is very difficult for an unprepared black player . I play this way mostly in blitz or rapid chess and not classic time control games , in those I put the rook back on e1 . 10 Rxe7 is also possible  but I havent had the courage to play that in rated games ...

Since he didnt specify black or white I guess everyone is free to assume either . If the question is concerning the black side of the RL  there are many good choices for black . I always liked the Breyer lines in the closed RL and also used to like the classical/cordel defense  ( 3... Bc5 ) which is better than its reputation ...
