Why Doesn't Anyone Play The Polish?

Is it because white can get a pawn immediately and defend just as quickly giving them some loose control of some of light squares they need to develop? Or is it that people don't want to play openings that they never studied and never want to study because it's strange. An explanation to this could be useful to me (and possibly others if they considered playing it) because I play this all the time.

The Polish can be tricky if black doesn't know the theory.  I typically like cleaning games into technical channels (even "giving up" an exchange of a queen or other piece for a simpler but no less trivial win) where I have winning chances (it could be an equal but not drawn position) but the Polish grants the opposite kind of game.

I like the Nimzo-Larsen much better as white personally because the b-pawn is compact and not a target (except if black opts for ...a5 and ...a4 eventually) and piece pressure restraining the dark squares is the name of the game.  I like 1.b3 and 1.Nf3 for setups.

If 1.Nf3,g6!? then 2.e4 (The Modern is harder than the KID for black) 2...Bg7 3.d4,c5 4.dxc5,Qa5+ 5.c3,Qxc5 6.Na3 where white has a good game.  The attempt to prevent 7.Nb5 with the idea of restricting the queen and a fork threat with 6...a6?? fails to 7.Nc4,Qc7 8.Be3 where the holes on the queenside are under white's complete control and the queen will yet again need to move.  White's lead in development is decisive here.

That's not the Polish! Polish defence starts with 1. d4 b5 or even 1. c4 b5. It's pretty good opening. Not worse than the Dutch defence!

I must have confused which side plays what.

1.e4 f5 is Fred's Defense and is a horrible Defense.

The Polish depends on which Polish you are talking:

Polish Attack - 1.b4 (I've played this over 100 times as White in OTB tournaments)

Polish Defense - 1.d4 b5 (I avoid this like the plague)
