Just curious what the response would be to having a ladder board here at chess.com. I would suggest that everyone would have a period of time(1 week) to join the ladder. Then everyone is placed in rank form according to their rating. Any 1 person can challenge up to 10 ranks higher then his current position. No one person can have more than 2 ladder games at any 1 time.
Any ideas?? comments???

Mahalo!
I'd love to see chess.com implement a ladder system!
I'm hoping to set up a small ladder for a group I administer (GrayMatter Chess Community), but in comparison to other sites which really feature ladders it looks like it is going to be a challenge. I love chess.com, but this is the one feature I miss from other sites.
Could you use the Team Match mechanism to create a ladder?
Start a Team Match; everybody in the group joins up. Chess.com automatically sorts the players by rating. Players challenge other players N places above or below manually. The game results will be automatically reflected in the order within the Team.
Hmm ... I'm not sure that works. Have you tried a team match? I haven't yet myself. But from the way it looks to me to work is that you don't play within your group, but between groups. So I'm not sure how that would enable you to set up ladder play. Or am I missing something?
You're correct. You would need to create a 2nd group - a dummy one (assuming you have no dummies in your group already). Or you could have an arrangement with another group whereby you challenge them to a team match which will never start.
Well, probably the biggest dummy is the group organizer (me)...
But with team play doesn't the computer automatically match up the players based strictly on rating? So how would someone, for example, on rung #10 challenge someone on rung #7?
The Team Match would ONLY provide the ordered ranking. You would not actually be playing a team match. It was just an idea to avoid having to sort the players by ranking manually - and having to update a list somewhere (in a forum posting, for example).
Clearly, I don't have a clue how ladders work. If rung#7 beats rung #10, do they change places? If so, the Team Match mechanism would be as useful as a chocolate teapot.
OK, I understand. Thanks. At this point the group is small enough that manual ranking and updating the list probably isn't too difficult. But it is unfortunate that the management of the challenges, who is available to be challenged, etc. etc. would need to be maintained manually.
You could try using tournament mechanism ...
