it's an option
they don't have to accept the challenge
you could put the hourglass icon by the challenge to indicate it is no vacation or it has vacation limits

tournaments that are unable to fill their slots should expire after a period of time - this would stop the tournament list filling up with hundreds of unfilled tournaments
That would have been helpful to me a week ago...
Nothing, but that's also a risk now as is the risk of sitting through an excruciatingly long lapse from your opponent when they go on an extended vacation -- also not fun, particularly when it's a tournament and not even your game....
How about team vote chess ratings?
Yes, I agree 100%!
I like points better....

Fifthed.
I assume you fourth & fifth guys are agreeing rating is better than points.
Yep.

yay! my idea has been eighthed!
Here's a feature I'd like to see in the area of account settings: It would be great if there were a checkbox in there that would allow me to choose whether or not to display the "online indicator" radio-tower (?) graphic by my username when I'm on the site.
Personally, I'd rather leave my online/offline status a mystery. Who really cares if I'm reading over the forums, watching a vid, getting Mentored, or Tacticizing? Relative to those activities, my time focussed on echess is a pretty small portion of the pie - so that message on the game screen that says "Your opponent is online! The screen will update when they move!" (I'm paraphrasing) is quite misleading - at least in my case.
Cheers
I don't want this.
You don't want what? I was suggesting the "Show when I'm online" feature should be user's preference, so you can have it any way you like.
Or are you saying that you don't want me to be able to appear offline when I'm doing things that aren't interactive with other members. If so, what's it to you?
Cheers
I like this feature, it wouldn't be helpful if someone switched it off.
Well, my point is that, in the case of someone who's just studying with Chess Mentor and not interacting with other users, it's not helpful when it's "on" either.
Basically, it should really be my call whether or not to advertise the fact that I have a browser tab open to chess.com (which I may or may not be paying any attention to, etc.). I probably look like I'm online most of the day, most days. But I'm not really engaged in chess.com in any way for the larger percentage of that time.
Anyway, relatively small potatoes for sure, but I still think it's a good nice-to-have feature.
Can anyone tell me if this idea has been tried and or implemented?:
In the starting position option list, have a set of starting positions where certain pieces have been removed from the board, in particular the Queens.
It's been said that if one can win consistently without the Queen, they've become a much better player.
Maybe these games would default as unrated?

Yeah, that would be cool - you could give someone Queen odds, etc. Unrated sounds about right. :)

i usually only challenge a player or start a team match against a team or player that is online or has an admin online so i can get the opening done that day usually

Exactly. And given assumptions like those, you would be sorely disappointed if you challenged me because I was 'online.' I should have the right to self-evaluate my usage habits and protect you from that disappointment. :)
