Interruptions...

A game that ends with one of the players having their connection interrupted, should NOT affect the rating(s)! -It ought to be 'filed' as a 'No contest'...anyone who agrees?

kleelof

Yeah. I wonder how many 'connection interruptions' people in losing positions would start having.

Darn it! that's the 23rd time that cable became unplugged. Ah, shucks.

ArchdukeShrimp

I personally know how frustrating it can be to lose a winning game when I disconnect, but there is no way they could make these unrated. This would simply trigger a lot of people disconnecting intentionally to avoid losing.

JGambit

sorry but i would hate that if it were implemented. People would disconect if they didnt like how things played out.

JesusIsTops

Couldn't some type of code be developed that would save the game after each move?

JGambit

would you want to wait during a winning game for someon to reconnect?

Actually, this is already done. However, as JGambit mentioned, the deadbeat would just never return.

JesusIsTops

Thanks kleelof. I was thinking that if the deadbeat did not return there would be some type of rule that they would lose on time, but then, how long would that time limit be (your playing with someone in area hit by a snowstorm and their power is out for days)? Also by return I am not just thinking of returning to the game in question but when he/she logs back in, the system alerts them it their move and they have so many minutes to get back to that game they. I think you and JGambit are speaking of online live games and not just the plain online games that players might agree on a time limit, and in that case JGambit's point is well taken. I am new here and still learning how much of the site works. I even have to get used to the grid notations since when I first learned the notation generally used was like P-K4, N-KB3.

I get all of your points -I guess I just wasn't thinking in the way of a cheater...but is it only chess.com who suffers from these way-to-often interruptions? Would it help if I'd change to another chess-site?? Is it why the highest ranked players aren't here???

mosai

The highest ranked players aren't here because the highest ranked players aren't here. Chess.com's philosophy seems to be trying to steal the players bottom-up.

JesusIsTops

dejvidd, maybe a solution if one has connectivity problems would be to play the online version where one can set a number of days for a response.

Hey, nobody stole me, I blindly accepted.

What other sites would you recommend instead?
