New Features & Fixes - May 3 2009

After months of work, today is our biggest release in a long time! Here are the new features and fixes:
 
- New Chess Video Lessons section featuring daily lectures from chess professionals ( http://www.chess.com/videos )
- Added "No Vacation Allowed" as a tournament option
- Major re-write of all chessboard javascript for better performance and animation
- Added new 3D pieces (or 2.5D? who knows...) and textured boards
- Preview your board settings for Online Chess ( http://www.chess.com/home/echess_settings.html )
- Added many new features (analysis board, create game, chat) to mobile chess ( http://www.chess.com/play/mobile-chess.html )
- Removed FEN and PGN fields until after game is over
- Fixed small membership trial billing issue
- Fixed "Newest Group Member" bug on member home page
- Fixed % complete calculation error in chess mentor courses
- Fixed small messaging error in conditional moves
- Updated http://www.chess.com/legal.html
- Fixed a few typos & html structural changes

It's a minor thing, but I really appreciate the subtle adjustment of the highlight squares that show you where a piece moved two and from.

Great stuff! I'm missing my account to try out those 3d pieces, dang. I'll have to get to that this summer...

Live chess analysis boards? Or should we focus on more new features consitently.. Build a strong foundation or more floors to a floating house..

currently you can watch short demos of all videos and there are 5 videos that you can see in full. but those are just the free ones - that will never change. to watch unlimited videos you need to be a diamond member. why? these videos are NOT cheap to produce!

Great stuff! Now, if I only had the time to enjoy all the benefits... I will definitely try the videos though!

If this was available to the lower tiered memberships it would definitely push me over the edge. Perhaps make them available to gold/platinum members ~1 month after they have been available to diamond members? I can understand if you think that it will detract from diamond memberships but for now my chess budget is better spent elsewhere.
