Too many unfair players on Chess.com

Sort:

I bet I've been not the only one to meet really a lot of: racist players, insulting players, players disconnecting when losing, cheaters, etc...

I know you can block who you want, but I think there're too many people like that on this site... blocking is useless, cause when you block someone other players meet that person anyway... and you meet too players like him anyway, cause there're a lot...

What do you think of what I said? I think Chess.com would be a better site if it starts a ban policy.

*Title correction, Too MANY unfair players obviously Smile

In my opinion the only real issue is that of cheating. Disconnecting when losing is perfectly within a player's rights. Racial slurs and other insults (trash talking) I consider to be part of the game, although of course it's morally wrong.

You change the title if you wish, by going to the bottom of your homepage and you will see "Manage All Content"

@lamwell - I think disconnecting when losing is really unfair, and insulting someone with no reason (or cause he beated you) is rude and dishonorable.

@kco - Thank you ;)

Anyway it seems that almost anybody is interested in this discussion... instead it's an important problem in my opinion...

Why is diconnecting while losing unfair? Obviously it could happen by accident, but even if it were deliberate does it serve any purpose other than to perhaps annoy the opponent?

 Also I'm not saying insulting others is good (actually it is a form of bullying), but as a competitor it may be wiser to train oneself to be more psychologically imperturbable towards the insults rather than complain about it. Only in a perfect world would we be totally free of it.

Those actions describe the people who perform them. I accept them behaving like they do, but I don't want to play them.

So, from now on I'll block unsporty people.

I don't like to be bullied, and I don't like to have to sit and wait because of my opponent not making a move for several minutes in a clearly lost position.

And clearly abusive names I'll block as well

I don't need to change unsporty people, I just don't need to play them.

Well... Some players abandon lost games repeatedly (eg. http://www.chess.com/members/notes/IranianChessman), and so it's clear that they do it on purpose.

Everything what chess.com does about it is, that they show you a message, stating that such player could have his account suspended. Unluckily, I have never seen them suspend anything.

Edit:

I have found a report form and reported abuse. Let's see what happens.

@gmindedop - I don't agree. You block them, but other people keep playing vs them after... ban for some people would be a permanent solution. Regarding changing unsporty people I think there's hope for everyone Wink

@Johny007 - I think Chess.com doesn't ban anybody. I created this post precisely to attract their attention on the problem.

@kaynight - LOL Laughing
Anyway I think that more could be done to stop those people.

chess.com should close chat when too much talk occurs while playing
