Disprove God Ubik42

Justified08

it's started by either macer or chessdex.

TheGrobe

It's not possible to prove the nonexistence of something but that's far from evidence of its existence.

This:

OP: What is better, Ruy Lopez or Giuoco Piano?

Poster 1: Ruy Lopez, duh [short, to the point, but not very helpful because it gives no reasons for the opinion]

Poster 2: Giuoco Piano [Goes on to type up a bunch of lines that OP will probably never read because TLDR]

Poster 3: Don't study openings, Tactics, Tactics, Tactics

OP: Don't give me that.  I want to know about the opening

Poster 3: You stink.  Your games stink.  Your rating is only 899.  Go do some tactics.

OP (to Poster 3): Your games are worse, you lost to some dude with a 700 rating who plays King's Gambit.  Look who's talking.

[OP and Poster 3 argues some]

off-topic dude: Sicilian Najdorf is cool

chessdex

good one

and someone then invariably mentions the dragon sicilian.

gundamv

and then Poster 1 says something like "Ruy Lopez, cuz Fischer/Carlsen/Anand/etc. played it" [appeal to authority]

Go ahead and name names. We all know poster 3 is IM Pfren

gundamv

I actually find IM Pfren quite helpful.

The "OP," "Poster1," "Poster 2," "Poster 3," and "off-topic dude" I described are generalized fictional people.  They do not represent specific people so much as they represent "types" of posts - the general question, the short but not very helpful answer, the long and also not very helpful answer, the disparaging off-topic answer (telling someone to study tactics has nothing to do with whether the Ruy or the Giuoco is better), and the goofy off-topic answer.

Another type of thread:

OP: Look at the opening I just found!  1 h4 h5 2 g4 a6.  Very cool huh!?  I just beat a 1700 rated guy with this.  I now call it the "OP opening"

Poster A: That's lame.  What a dumb opening

Poster B: That's nothing, let me tell you about the time I won with the Daeth Opening

Poster C: Bet you could beat Carlsen with that

[And follows a series of non-sequitur goofy replies]

Go ahead and name names. We all know poster 3 is IM Pfren

I think that IM Pfren would give a line refuting the OPs suggestion. But he only would give something like the first 5 moves.

The OP would have to figure the rest himself.

i love dragons ... especially big blue ones with purple wings and a pink belly. Emerald green eyes that seem to absorb the light, and ribbling scales, each  intricately woven plate thicker than an encylopedia; a plume of whispy ochre mist wafting from two giant fiery nostriles each time it exhales ... just like the one circling my room right now.

macer just classifies a typical troll in that he cant create any good orginal threads and prefers to troll people who can.

it can't be you. You have to be in junior kindergarten if you say something like that with weird punctuation and a semicolon inside the word "doesn't".
