In diagonal-chess, you win when your bishop or pawn gets to the eighth rank.

Also, watch out for THREE black bishops.

Pieces move like normal. Black wins when he gets his king back to e8. White needs to checkmate black to win. White goes first.

En passant chess : Disposition is normal, but each slider can be taken "En passant" by any piece or pawn : after a move without capture by one player of a slider (eg a rook), a piece or a pawn can capture it on its path (stricly, not on its initial position), but may only do so this turn (in other word, only the piece that just move can be captured en passant). Any piece or pawn can capture pawn en passant following the same principle as well.

I've played this variant with a friend, and it was quite interesting. early pawn grabing is nearly impossible without losing a (major) pieces, it's very easy to get trapped, pawn and bishops are far stronger, as well as knight and king, that cannot be taken en passant (they are not sliders). However, knight and bishop checkmate still is as hard as before, so you might want to keep a rook, even though, a rook and king mate might be near impossible to force.

Also, a knight can neatly shut down a rook on a corner.
