Another 15 + 10 game

Lessons learned:

Don't panic because of the opening: I'm looking back up how to play against the panov. It's gotten burried under my switch to the sicilian. I think for the first part of the game I did the right thing by just playing for an equality to get to a playable middlegame.
Calculation error: This tends to be something I do. I think I've found something good and then don't calculate once I think I've found a good move. Qd6 "solved" my problems with the c pawn, but it only took a simple review to realize it just blundered a piece

Be able to laugh: Ultimately raging doesn't do any good. There was a master at the USAT I played recently who kept getting upset by 1800s and then would flip chairs on his way out. If you can't just laugh and accept the mistake, chess improvement is going to be a lot more difficult

I think analyzing why the thought process went wrong can be instructive. It's not the same thing as "I made a mistake and lost" because it's more realizing I got distracted with two different threats and when I found a move I thought was good I didn't calculate it because it looked like it solved my problem. Sure the biggest thing for me to take away from this game was to look back at the panov, but I think if I don't look at why the calculation error happened it becomes tougher to fix the thought process. There's a friend of mine who's a very solid 1500. 3 different times over the board I've watched him fall for the same dumb trap that hangs a bishop. They were very slightly different each time, but he clearly just thought he had commited it to memory and then fell for the same trap multiple times anyway. Maybe it was because two of them were in high school tournaments and he wasn't paying attention because they were unrated. Sometimes hoping you've remember the pattern isn't enough. Realizing I stopped calculating too early can be helpful. Although I agree it won't help that much

Possibly. There are too many people that don't take away anything from online games though, myself included. I'm trying to look at these games the way I would OTB games where I analyze my own thought process and what caused the game to fall apart. This one there wasn't much to analyze but I threw in my thoughts on it. I'm going to keep trying it for a bit

Wise advice. Caro kann isn't something where black does much punishing of sidelines. Trying to punish sidelines can be dangerous. I recently crushed my first expert who didn't know what the shirov/shabalov gambit against the slav was and kept moving quickly until he got himself into serious trouble.
