A game with zero mistakes

Sort:

Hi guys

I just played my most accurate game ever.

I checked every move in this game with Chess.com computer analysis (Rated 2500). The computer said that I made 0 mistakes and 0 blunders. This is surprising because my rating is only 1050! I didn't know I could play like this...

Perfect games can happen, rarely. Usually on short and highly tactical games like this one. I've played exactly one in my life (plus another where an engine running on the Fritz 10 GUI won't flag my one error since it merely thinks of it as "departing book").

So treasure it; it won't happen often, and it's awesome when they do.

@calculator According to the computer, he did, in fact, play perfectly.* What's impressive is not that he won, but that he played the best move each time. Surely most people would have played a second best but "good enough" move somewhere?

*I do wonder whether 2300 is enough to determine whether the game was actually perfect or not. That's barely stronger than even a regular master. I tend to think 3300 is far closer to perfection...

Thanks for your comment! I agree that chess.com computers are not perfect, but I was wrong about the rating. After a quick check, I see that the rating of chess.com computer analyser is actually ~2500 Elo - like a strong IM or maybe even a GM.

In recent years I have played more than 2000 chess games on chess.com and many other websites. I used to be a 1600's player in the past. In fact, this is the first time in my life that I play a game without making mistakes. Like you say, it's very rare so I hope you enjoy the moves :)

It is a great game and fun to watch, but far from perfect.
According to stockfish (Rated almost 3300), there were a few mistakes:

Move 4: O-O is better.
Move 6:  Bxf7 is better.
Move 10: Qd4 is better.
Move 12: Nc3 is better.
Move 14: Rfe1 is better.
Move 17: Rad1 is better

Nice game, congrats.

What's impressive is not that he won, but that he played the best move each time!

But what is meant by the "best move"?

In an easily won position, as White had from Black's blunder on move 5 onwards, there will be many different moves which maintain a winning position in every subsequent position. Why is any of these moves any better than any other?

Starting with 3...h6, black basically pushed his own face into a meat grinder. And one computer says that white won most efficiently by pushing the on button with his middle finger, because it is 3/8 inch longer than the index finger. And stockfish counters that the index finger, although shorter, is a fraction of a second faster

Actually I learned from playing piano a long time ago that the shorter the finger the less strong it is and the harder it is to move as fast as your other fingers, especially when you are typing on a computer, which is why correct form is stressed, correct form when typing on the computer and playing on the piano), as it gives your fingers a mechanical advantage to move downwards.  I also learned while playing piano that people a long long time ago figured this out and created a series of exorcises to strengthen your fingers so you can play evenly and fast regardless of what finger you where pressing the keys with.
