Did anyone hire a security company to watch over the people and audience within and around the playing hall? Did anyone add camera in different places including just outside of the rest room area? Did anyone arrange seprate restrooms for audience vs palyers?

Huh... Obviously, yes?

Remember the toiletgate?

ashikuzzaman

irontiger and rdecredo, we are talking about open tournaments in usa. are you saying #1, #2 and #3 are done in world open, national open, chicago open or us open? I dont think so. no one hires a separate security comapny. from my experience in playing us and national open i can tell you all 3 are negative.

LOL instead of using hole cards like they do in poker they should use stuff that can analyse the brainwaves so we can see how hard the players actually use their brains when in a difficult position, actually that sounds really cool and a new innovative idea! Maurice, send me the money for this brilliant idea!!!

bangalore2

From my experience, none of those are done in the Chicago Open.

Oh no, then as you cheat you solve multiplication problems in you head and no one can tell the difference...

Or simply analyze the position as normal but never play the move you come up with ;)

good point shell knight...wow

Looks like it is going to be a successful tournament and I wish that I lived closer so that I could afford to go, I live in NZ and so Las Vegas is quite expensive to get to. I can see this event getting bigger and bigger each year and know from previous experience in holding chess tournaments or going to them that the first event of its kind always draws lower numbers and in the following year you see a marked increase. Maybe next year there will be more overseas players as they could combine it with a trip to Vegas. This model of high entry fee with high prizes looks like a great idea.

>As for separate restrooms ... since when has their been a crush of people watching games such that the players are inconvenienced?  Please.  Anyone that needs, or wants, separate restroom facilites in an event such as this is an effete arsehole. <

The seperate bathrooms is mainly to prevent cheating.

Also you can't say that they aren't using any additional cameras other than the casino.  It would be foolish for them to publicize all security measures they have put  into place.  They've already mentioned a few to put the players at ease and to show that they are addressing the problem, but for proper security some methods need to be  kept unknown.

Fine, but then, don't take credit for them or claim they are worth $1k.

(I am currently actively helping to solve various diplomatic crises around the world, but due to the process involved, I cannot disclose how.)

I did no such thing.  All I said was they've taken measures to prevent cheating.  Also what is this nonsense about it being worth $1K?  It plays no role in deciding to enter this event.  Well at least for me anyway.

... but of course, you do not know which. (EDIT: I do not imply that said measures are inexistant, I just mean that "something" is not always better than nothing)

BTW, the "worth" thing was more about ashikuzzaman than you.

You are out of your mind.  The event is going to lose $500,000 and will dissappear from the face of the earth after this one failed effort.

A clear contrast. See how you view life and your surroundings can have so different impact on your judgement. While RubiksRevenge was merely hoping that the event will be attrracting, redecredo knows for sure that it wont exist next year. Well you can'e be so sure. 500+ chess players support is not something to just shrugg off... you at least have to give a thought. Dont be so sure because next year when the 2nd event happens we can easily refer you back to this particular thread comment and say - all your future logic is voided. Thats why when I talk - I merely say I think and probably - because I am not sure. No one can be so sure without travling in time machine to the future.

Regarding the $1k, I was not talkng about the entry fee. I was pointing out the incorrect data presented by rdecredo that this event is not taking any new mearures that other events are not taking. Looks like many of us here think so too.

>They are not using extra cameras aside from casino security.  The casino won't allow it.  No one else is allowed to run a cc system or use video cameras in a casino to record events.<

You really need to stop saying things so matter of factly because there will always be exceptions.

I've personally filmed inside a casino on the casino floor and was allowed to do so as long as I didn't film anyone's face, the game layouts or any of the chips.  That already voids your statement of no one else being allowed to use video cameras in a casino.

This event is also being broadcasted live so a little common sense would tell you that there will be other video cameras.  This event is happening away from the casino floor where security is highest.  Corporations are allowed to use video equipment to record their special events held on the premises.

The only thing I can agree on with you is the use of a CC system, but other than that nothing you've said is true.

Are you a filmmaker?  What were you filming?  Casino (1995)?  (not trying to be a dick, just curious.)

To be honest, I think the majority of the entrants are poker players since the event is in las vegas. I am aware that a lot of poker players are really interested in chess and 1k $ is nothing for the pros to be totally honest, just watch the high-stakes gamblers and how big they are playing although all the big games seem to be set in Macau nowadays. If I was poker pro that lived in Las Vegas and could afford it then I would enter the event, no doubt.

I'm serious and my mind is quite sane, just pause and think about it for a while and maybe you will understand.

No I'm not a filmmaker.  I was on a trek across the country with some friends and we were documenting our adventures.  The casino was actually pretty nice about it and they really had no problem with us filming in the casino as long as we followed certain guidelines.
