bullet times counting down before game starts

Sort:

This only started yesterday or the day before? Why is this happening? The clock should only start once both players have made a first move, this especially makes a big difference in bullet

I very much agree. Very bad change. Also, since one cannot effectively block players, at least one should be able to abort against the worst offenders on this site.

kleelof

In bullet, neither clock starts until both players have made a move?

pawncrastination

It just changed.

I've noticed this happening in blitz too.  Maybe it's a bug with live chess?

youngrema

not a bug, they changed it, its terrible. you can still abort the game by not moving which is ridiculous because if you miss a few seconds no one will ever start a game

Fully agree, WhopperWithCheese. (Darn, now I want one.)

kleelof

Difficult to believe bullet would have anything that would be considered 'well crafted'. Seems instead to be a matter of the eventual blunder or overlooked winning tactic.

kleelof why protest if you've simply not experienced a "well crafted" victory in bullet yourself? just because you haven't means they don't exist??

Perhaps you would be kind enough to post a couple of 'well crafted' bullet checkmates you've made.

kleelof

I'm not being negative nor confrontational. I'm being opiniated, completely different thing. You just took my opinion as negative and confrontational because you don't agree with it.

kleelof

You're leaving already?

Big talker. Can't back-up your words with proof.

What an ass. Posts this on my wall then blocks me so I can't respond:

Probably if you got out a little instead of sitting around making up fancy phrases like 'well crafted' for sloppy playing, you would know that Chess.com boosted everyones live ratings last year but not the avg opponents ratings.

...all I care about is an effective way to avoid opponents I know for a fact lack any sense of sportsmanhip. Chess.com could simply allow players to block others (not just comments but being matched up against one another), then nobody would have to cancel many games ever.

Supposedly, blocking someone prevents them from being matched with you.

I've noticed this on my iPad, but not when I connect via PC. Seems to be part of v.3.

This feature exists for blitz at other sites. Sometimes it is preferable to the long wait. Maybe a compromise with a three second delay for bull;et and five seconds for blitz would be appropriate.

I'm afraid you're mistaken there. Would be great if it did.

This is the official chess.com line.

Well, I've blocked folks but continue to meet them in games, leaving me no option but to play them or repeatedly cancel games, which in turn is recognised by the site as me violating fair play rules...
