So what do you guys think about this? I for one am thrilled-can you imagine the 2016 US Championship?!

JMB2010

And the 2016 Olympiad.

What the heck? Nah jokes. Def. not true

Lol, check chess.com news

Kamsky has said he will no longer play in team events. We need to purchase another top 10 player to fill our 4th spot.

JMB2010

Yeah, it's unfortunate that Kamsky chose to go out when he did. Maybe Shankland can replace him.

It's pretty strange that so and caruana are choosing the US over a country that respects chess a little more, if you know what I mean. :)

Yea.... true...

Still..it is pretty cool. Maybe this might be the beginning of another Chess awakening in the US.

Remember the Fischer explosion after the 72 WCC... Myself and some of my friends started playing chess because of that Fischer boom years. :)

Did you  know he grew up on the same block as Bobby Fischer?

Even if Kamsky wanted to play in the Olympiad, he probably wouldn't qualify. Ray Robson is 2680, while Kamsky is 2673 and it will go down even further after his most recent tournament. Plus, I don't think many want Kamsky back on the team after his horrendous performance last time in Tromso.

Lol true

I don't find it strange. By all accounts So wants to make his life here in the US (kinda what this country was built on). And Caruana is returning to his home country.

Glad to see this!

Great to have Caruana come back to represent the USA!

As to whether the United States chess team truly represents the US, Kamsky moved to the US when he was a teenager and has spent all of his adult life representing the US. I don't think you can say he isn't truly American or something (although I guess he's retiring now and there will be some other player taking his spot). Caruana and Nakamura grew up in the US, competed in and learned chess here. One can't dispute them representing the US. Lastly, the United States has a long history of being a land of immigrants. In that same spirit So can represent the US as an immigrant coming here from another land. Of course he will always be Phillipino, having been born and raised there, but that doesn't mean he can't be an American too.

Also I'm in my 20's, not 15 or whatever haha.

Happy to see Caruana playing for the US again - and more importantly what a great influence CCSCSL has been having.

Why are we so obsessed with country representation? Do we worry if a famous scientist like Stephen Hawking is British or Chinese?  Or, do we pay more attention to the person's individual achievements? This only helps in team events and getting sponsoring (money!!!). Countries that only train native players treat others as secondary.  I would much rather see Chinese train a mix of Europeans, Chinese, Africans, etc... as a collective group giving everyone equal opportunities to live and work where they want.  Russia is not far behind either.  Eventually they will do the same and we can have matches instead of country olympic style farce tournaments.

That makes approximately zero sense.
