Why does White win more games than Black?
Chess isn't fair - but I can fix it!

why not allow both players to go at the same time. lol Great forum.
What you are proposing is nothing short of complete chess anarchy. Are you a nihilist? I was hoping for some sensible ideas.

I think in lots of tournament games black gets to choose which side the clock goes on. And when I play with friends just for fun otb we usually play a match of two or four, so we each get to be white the same number of times as the other guy.

Solutions?
- Give White half the time to move
- Deduct time from White clock when he makes a move
- Add time to Black's clock when he makes a move
- Have two seperate clocks (that are still connected together). Black's clock is on the table next to the board, and White's clock is on the other side of the room, about 20 meters away
- Give Black the option of taking back a few moves
These are only ideas that deal with time though...

Through my intensive study of the statistics of chess games played in the last 100 years I have discovered a loophole in the game that leaves it fundamentally flawed.
White wins more games than black does. This can't be fair. I have a couple of suggestions:
Firstly: When I play in tournaments and I am white I voluntarily play left handed to even things out. They could make this a compulsory rule in OTB chess in all tournaments.
Secondly: This won't work for online or correspondence chess so what they could do is that for every move that white gets, black gets two. This would make it more even. Chess.com should pioneer this fairer version of chess and I am happy to gift you the international patent which I currently have pending.
Any other suggestions to help make this game (that we all love) fairer will be gratefully received.
This is an untrue, but the fact that your gay, now that's a true statement. Happy reading.

White BARELY wins more than Black according to the statistics... We don't need to give White a disadvantage. Black has plenty of compensation for moving second; like deciding the Opening and it's variations.
ADK

I don't think it's a big problem... the "fundamental flaw" is about as negligible a flaw as possible in a game where someone needs to go first. And grandmasters beat grandmasters all the time as black, just a few percentage points less than when they play as white. Well, they often play matches with an even number of games to compensate. So what's the big deal?

I think if black gets two moves for every white move then black has a huge advantage. :) How would white handle check if it is black's first of his/her two moves? Would black just consider that as checkmate? :) After 1. e4 e5 Qh4 then I think white is already in trouble threatening 2...Qf2# (if you consider that mate since black can move again to capture the king) and 2...Qxe4#. :)

Just take away white's queen . . that will get the black wins up again.
Good luck Mr Handicapper General ;)

And I think going first is a slight to none advantage as others point out. :) With best play from both sides then I think it should always end in a draw. If we talk about equality in moves then maybe you can consider if white checkmates the black king then black gets one more turn to find a check or checkmate on white's king. :) If it is only check then white must defend and black must continue to find checks or checkmate. If black is successfull in finding checkmate then it is a draw. :) But that is just creative thinking though. :)
