Chess Park was a better service

- you can watch other people's games in live chess as they are happening
- as for that "destop tool", we don't have, but we do offer mobile chess, facebook chess, and iGoogle chess, and some other apps accessible to the iPhone and they are working on the Android app right now.
How was the "transfer" poor? Can you describe it to me?
ADK

Keep in mind that Chess.com was the one that covered chessparks glaring managment errors, at some expense to themselves.
Maybe if you hang out here for a little longer you'll find that this really is the best chess site on the internet (and I play at pretty much all of them).
Best regards,
Matt

i actualy think this web site is exelant!
my only comment is about the add ones that dont disapear unless you are a paying member. that realy realy realy disturbs many members here who just want to have fun. what otherwise this web site is truly a fantastic place with amazing players and mannegars!
keep up the good work thanks!
and please think of taking care some how of the add ones ( if some one from the stuf are reading this :) )

"---you can watch other people's games in live chess as they are happening "
This has been disabled for a while now. I hear it is coming back.
If it is back on now where do you see a game list? I know you can watch games of those who are chatting but only those.

Well, it's a sad thing if a that a chess site has to close down. But at the end of the day, we all just want to play chess, and you can still do that, right?
Maybe the interface is different, and some features are missing, but you'll see, there are probably other features here, and after a while you'll realise it's not so bad here...
Anyway, welcome all.
Anybody know how many members transferred?

Just responding to ADK,
First of all, thank you for responding my thread.
I see now that there is an option to see other people's games, but also I have noticed that seeing a game that last DAYS is the most boring thing ever. Chesspark has the option where you can see easy and friendly the games that we set up for 1, 5, 10 or 15 minutes. That was awesome; I know from other former Chesspark users that we all missed that feature. I know that you have other features and I can guess that those ones are pretty cools ones, but to be honest with you the best tool and what make Chesspark successful at the beginning was exactly the "desktop tool". Why to open a browser when you were able to play directly from your computer on "online" time. The transfer was poor, because not all was transfer. What about the games, the history of games? LOST all of them, couple of years playing are now gone, lost gone.
On regards of the Avatar, Chess.com is not showing as it was with Chesspark. I know that is a silly thing, but you have asked.
When I requested assistance because my password was not working, it took more than 24 hrs to get a pretty silly and laughable answer from the "support team". Then when I requested again assistance, I find it out myself better that continue waiting for assistance.
It think that it was also disrespectful for ALL chesspark that suddenly Chesspark STOPPED working, and then received and email from Chess.com letting us know that Chesspark joined (it was acquired) Chess.com, as usual users are just simply numbers. I knew about Chess.com but I didn’t like it in the first place, thanks god a that time it was Chesspark therefore I joined there and now, I don’t have other option but to stick with whatever Chess.com offers and the way that they offered.
Please do not renew my subscription.
Regards,
Yes, live chess has 1, 2,3, 5, 10, 15+ minutes per game that you can view. The "desktop tool" sounds cool and maybe you should send in a request to add it as a feature. This link should answer some of your questions about why not ALL of your info was not transfered:
http://www.chess.com/news/chesscom-welcomes-chesspark-members-2379
The support team only has about 7 staff members at most and they are not always online so they do not readily respond sometimes. About the short notice, I think that can also be answered in that link, but I'm not entirely sure. Are you sure you don't want to renew your "subscription"? Becoming a member has a lot of extra perks and benefits to accompany the already free ones.

The most important difference:
The client. You could download a program and you could play very very good quality. With poor internet and computer it was very very important.
It was much better than any else on the internet. If Chesspark bankrupted it would be much more valuable than some thousands users.
If you had had such good client users could have come.
It was real real time and not so slow that all other. With old computer and slow internet I have very big disadvantage

These are 2 of the most fenomenal tools that Chesspark and that WE all former Chesspark missed and now we are stuck in with Chess.com that we don't like overall.

From a unhappy former Chesspark user.
Sir_Galahad
I'm now officially totally lost.
How is it former members of Chess Park are stuck with Chess.com? Did Chess.com get their credit cards, paypal accounts, bank numbers or are they just holding the kittens ransom? Does this mean I can't leave chess.com if I don't like the service? (Tell my family my last thoughts were of them)
How did Sir Galahad get picked to speak for "...WE all former Chesspark...". I thought such self promotion was limited to media hacks and politicians?
Normally when a buisness goes away the former customers are left with nothing, especially on the internet. Getting on at Chess.com should have been viewed as an unexpected favor not something to be spit on. You don't like chess.com, leave, I'm sure the kitten will be alright. Don't like how Chesspark did or didn't transfer information? Tell them. Oh, right, they disappeared and you were lucky enough not to be left out in the cold.
BTW If chess park was such a better service why is it they couldn't stay in business? Being unable to stay up and running doesn't seem to be a very good endorsement.

Chesspark whiners...either make the best of your membership here at Chess.com or go play on Red Hot Pawn or Cowplay. This site has BY FAR many more features and benefits than any other out there, including former Chesspark. It's not necessarily perfect for everybody's needs or desires so by all means go ahead and make your constructive suggestions - but don't slam it for what it doesn't have.

It stings to have a favorite website shut down, or be transferred to another. I've watched several mergers over the years, and none have been completely smooth. Welcome Chesspark users!
I can watch any game that I want here, or can download it after it concludes. Honestly it's not a feature I use unless I am researching a turn-based opponent or watching titled players. There are very few titled players playing in live.
I'm curious about the loss of games played at Chesspark. Did Chesspark use pgn?
If you want to play without opening your browser, try ICC, Playchess, FICS. Chess.com offers live chess with no need to download software, and it has the best quality among the dozen or so sites where I've tried this. It does not really compete against ICC and Playchess, though.
It's stunning how many places one can find to play chess on the internet. I've played at more than twenty--combining live and turn-based. Chess.com, although just over two years old, has been in the top three for quality for most of its existence. They also make the best app for playing chess on Facebook.
Yeah, what is with the chesspark complainers?
You had two options:
1. Have no site at all - ChessPark was not making any money and was closing down
2. Join chess.com
Be glad Erik offered you the second option, having something is better than nothing.
And as others have said there are MANY chess sites out there, you are not even forced to be here. If you want to be "angry" at someone, it should not be chess.com who tried to give you a new chess home, it should be the chesspark management for not creating a profitable service that HAD TO shut down.
As for the site pros and cons: again, a web client is better than NO working client at all (after chesspark shut down, what server would your fancy desktop client work with?) and chess.com will eventually create all of these features. The first version of live chess had a few of them actually, but that had to go away to get improved. They WILL BE BACK if you hang around long enough to see!

I'm not complaining (I've played only about 10 games on Chesspark), but it would be nice if chess.com introduced the Chesspark variants :)
