Looking for a good free chess program for windows 8.

Lots of them out there.  Try Arena 3.0 or SCID for the UCI.  Then go get the Houdini 1.5a engine for them.

Lucaschess. You can play against engines of different ELO or use different engines. You can train with a lot of position and make your personal training based on your mistakes on your games.
