hi
Chess rating system
I could be a player of 1400 but my rating is 3000. how?
If you play with bad people it will plus you 1 or 2 and 99% of the times you will win them because they are so bad. So if you play many games with bad people, in each one it pluses you 1 so if you are 1400 you need to win 1600 games that it pluses you 1 to be 3000.
Example108, that doesn't work because eventually you either win zero rating points for beating them, or the small percentage of losses makes you lose as many rating points as the many wins combined.
Ratings can be inflated. They can't be inflated by 1600 points unless you're actually fixing games or something.

I'm puzzled by certain players whose game is poor up until 1 min before the end, point at which they suddenly turn to Bobby Fisher. Any thoughts on that? thanks

I've been here for years. If you don't use a computer to select your moves, you have nothing to worry about.

Oh yes it does! How well you play includes how well you manage your time. Time is as much part of Chess as it is in other games. In football you could score the greatest goal in history, but if the referee blows time before it goes in it doesn't count. Similarly in Chess if you don't get your moves in within the time, you lose, and correctly so.
I could be wrong, but I assume she's talking about blitz games. There are lots of people who are great blitz players but terrible in long games, and vice versa.
That's me :)
Just to verify for you guys, it is calculated at match end! On very rare occassions this means that you'll see +21 loss -16 draw +1 and get +22 for a win.
wait...+21 loss?
