I just lost 5 minute blitz game that I was winning, and ahead on time in. I'm not angry just very confused as to how my opponent somehow boosted his time on his clock by waiting roughly 30 or so seconds then making his move.. anyone know what this is? Thanks in advance.

pre moves boosts time somehow?

i am guessing lag because once a move is made there clock is adjusted to when they made the move it avoids a player being disadvantaged due to lag. It only appears they gained time. That is also why there was the thirty second gap between your move and their move.
