All jokes aside, GM Ben Finegold stated in one of his videos that he never resigns because you never know when an opponent may blunder a won position into a draw or lost position. Even in obvious situations. And personally, I like to let my opponent feel the glory of checkmate probably half the time I end up in a losing position, the other half of the time I may resign, just depends on the moment really.

That said, and having had the opportunity to read the comments that were posted while I was typing, those examples are quite valid. The moral of the story is the same: It depends on the position.
