From one old dinosaur to another: my friend, as hard as it may be to accept, the advice several players have already given you is the best. The single most important thing to focus on isn't the openings, it's basis tactics. Pins, forks, double attacks, discovered attacks, skewers, no retreat, battery, etc. etc. If you don't know the basic tactics and how to both prosecute and defend against them, all the opening knowledge in the world won't help much. Get a good basic beginner's tactics book, and study that. It's the fastest way to improve at your level. Stay with it, you'll be surprised how much time you'll find to study & play The Royal Game. Let us know how things are going, and if anyone can suggest a good modern book like I am recommending, please do so. My knowledge of chess books is relegated to the old days, when everything was in English Descriptive.

It was basically a book game so it’s nothing that crazy. I just followed theory for the Kings Indian Defense but it’s still cool that it happened.
That's funny. Most will tell you to avoid Speed chess. You don't have time for serious analysis or to develop anything but the most superficial strategy.
blitz and bullet helps you think faster, while rapid teaches you how to play slow
I... very strongly disagree. The way to "think faster" is to spend more time working on your calculation skills in longer time controls. Once you've put in the work and developed your pattern recognition to the point of many situations becoming instinctual, then you can blitz the moves out.
you have less time in blitz/bullet so i kinda assumed that you would have to think faster in those time controls because you have less time, if your smart and calculate a bajillion moves ahead then ig your point's proven here
When you learned how to read. Did you learn to spell C...A...T or speed read first?
haha no i think i can read like at 800 wpm i read really really fast
My oldest daughter when she was in elementary school was the fastest reader in her class. She also had one of the lowest comprehension rates. Chess is the same.
